​About this month's session:

​🧐 How do you actually price a biochar job? This is one of the most requested — and least documented — topics in the field, tackled by two people who do it for a living.

​🔥 Eric and Kelpie set out to build a full course on building a biochar on site service business, and realized there's more groundwork to lay first — and that it's worth doing together, since everyone's still figuring this out in their own corner of the industry. So they're bringing it to the BOS Network directly: sharing what they've each figured out, and opening up the conversation on what a fuller course could look like.

​Eric Mayer — PhD in Environmental Engineering (Stanford), studying fluid mechanics, hydrology, and global climate simulations. Founded Napachar to turn pulled vines and forestry slash into biochar across Napa and Sonoma vineyards and forests, diverting waste carbon from burn piles back into the soil. Since May 2026, postdoc at Stanford's Woods Institute for the Environment and Doerr School of Sustainability Accelerator, working to end catastrophic wildfire in fire-adapted forests through biochar.

​Kelpie Wilson — Mechanical engineer and author of The Biochar Handbook (Chelsea Green, #1 in Soil Science on Amazon), and inventor of the Ring of Fire Biochar Kiln®. 35+ years in engineering, in biochar since 2008. Founding board member of the US Biochar Initiative; led an NRCS grant developing on-farm biochar techniques with small farmers; pioneered the Flame Cap Kiln now used across forestry and agriculture.
