Curator’s Statement
In This Guy’s Mind is an exploration of the Black self through memory, faith, grief, love, humor, and healing. These works invite audiences into intimate worlds where spirituality and identity intersect, offering stories that challenge, affirm, and celebrate the complexity of our humanity.
Through a collection of original plays and performance pieces, this festival creates space for emerging and established voices to share stories that are deeply personal yet universally resonant. Together, these works reflect the power of theater to connect us, inspire us, and encourage meaningful dialogue.
Festival Description
In This Guy’s Mind: New Works Festival invites audiences into a curated landscape of imagination, memory, spirituality, and storytelling. Through original theatrical works, the festival explores Black identity, love, grief, healing, faith, and transformation.
Featuring emerging and established voices, the festival showcases new writing in various stages of development—from freshly conceived works to fully realized pieces. Each work contributes to a larger conversation about the complexities of the Black experience and the power of storytelling as a tool for reflection, connection, and liberation.
This afternoon of bold new work celebrates collaboration, artistic risk-taking, and the unique voices shaping contemporary theater.
