The Hinton Lectures™ 2026
The Hinton Lectures™ is an annual three-part lecture series presented by the AI Safety Foundation and hosted by Professor Geoffrey Hinton, 2024 Nobel Laureate in Physics. The series brings leading voices in AI safety to Toronto to examine some of the most consequential questions surrounding increasingly capable AI systems.
Nov. 9–11, 2026 | 6:00–7:30 p.m.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
John W. H. Bassett Theatre | MTCC
Attend in person or online
The 2026 series features Paul Christiano, Executive Director and Founder of the Alignment Research Center, whose work focuses on aligning future machine learning systems with human interests. He will be joined by moderator Sínead Bovell, strategic foresight advisor and Founder of WAYE, whose work explores how emerging technologies are reshaping economies, institutions and society.
Across three evenings, the series will examine Evidence, Oversight and Coordination, moving from what we know about AI alignment today to the challenge of maintaining control over increasingly capable systems and, ultimately, how transformative AI should be governed.
Night 1: Evidence
AI alignment: what’s working and what’s not
The opening lecture examines AI alignment through the evidence we have today: where existing approaches appear to be working, where they are falling short and what remains unresolved.
Night 2: Oversight
Staying in control of self-improving AI
The second lecture turns to oversight and the challenge of maintaining meaningful control as AI systems become increasingly capable and able to improve their own performance.
Night 3: Coordination
Governing transformative AI
The final lecture examines coordination and governance, asking what will be required to manage transformative AI responsibly as its capabilities and implications extend beyond any single organization or institution.
