About Event

Presented by Read in the Park πŸ“š

Bring whatever you've been meaning to write and come write with us!

Write in the Park is a relaxed outdoor writing session for anyone who wants to spend some focused time writing alongside other people in Golden Gate Park.

There's no required format, prompt, or type of writing.

Bring the thing you've been meaning to finish, start, or finally get out of your head and onto a page.

β€‹βœοΈ What can I write?

Anything.

You might be:

  • Working on a short story, novel, essay, or poem

  • Finishing a Substack article

  • Drafting a LinkedIn post

  • Planning content or writing Instagram captions

  • Working on a personal writing project

  • Journaling or writing by hand

  • Finally starting that idea that's been sitting in your Notes app

Digital or analog, both are welcome. Bring your laptop, tablet, notebook, journal, pen, or whatever you like to write with.

Need a spark? If you're not sure where to start, we'll have a few optional prompts on hand to get your writing juices flowing. Grab one from a host at the event.

You don't need to call yourself a writer to join us.

β€‹πŸŒΏ How our events go

Picture a stretch of grass in Golden Gate Park, a scatter of blankets, laptops and notebooks, and a group of people quietly working on completely different things.

We'll spend the first part of the afternoon writing independently. Then we'll break into small groups to meet the people we've been writing alongside.

You can talk about what you're working on, something you discovered while writing, where you're stuck, or simply get to know each other.

There's no expectation to share or read your writing aloud.

Come solo or bring a friend. Plenty of people come to our events alone! (read the guest policy please)

⏰ How the afternoon goes

2:00–2:30 PM β†’ Arrive, check in, find a spot & start writing

2:30 PM β†’ Check-in closes

Until 3:30 PM β†’ Quiet writing time

3:30–4:30 PM β†’ Conversation hour β€” we'll break into small groups to meet each other and chat

4:30 PM onwards β†’ Optional hangout β€” stay around and continue the conversations if you'd like

⏰ Arriving after 2:30 PM?

We have a hard stop for check-in at 2:30 PM so our hosts can settle in and enjoy the writing session too.

If you're running late, you can still join us. Come in quietly, find a spot, and start writing with everyone else.

After the writing session, find one of our hosts and we'll get you checked in before the conversation hour.

β€‹πŸŽŸοΈ Registration + Guest Policy

One registration = one person.

If you're bringing a friend or guest, please send them the event link and ask them to register separately before coming.

Our events often have a waitlist, so we really appreciate you making sure your guest has a confirmed registration rather than bringing an unregistered +1 while someone else is waiting for a spot.

We also arrange the number of hosts and conversation moderators based on our registration list. If significantly more people arrive than we're expecting, it becomes difficult for us to create the thoughtful, small-group experience we want everyone to have.

So please make sure everyone attending has their own registration. It helps us create a better experience for the whole community. πŸ’š

If your plans change and you can no longer attend, please update your RSVP so we can give your spot to someone on the waitlist.

β€‹πŸŽ’ What to bring

→ Whatever you need to write β€” laptop, tablet, notebook, journal, pen, etc.
β†’ A blanket or something comfortable to sit on
β†’ A jacket or extra layer β€” Golden Gate Park weather changes quickly
β†’ Water + snacks if you'd like
β†’ Headphones if they help you focus

If you're bringing a laptop or tablet, please come with it fully charged. We'll be writing in the park, so there won't be access to power.

β€‹πŸšŒ Getting here

Golden Gate Park gets busy on weekends, and parking around the park can be difficult.

If you're driving, give yourself some extra time to find parking.

Public transit is a great option too. The 7, 28 and 29 bus routes will get you close to our usual meeting area, with just a short walk into the park.

We'll share the exact meeting point with registered attendees before the event.

β€‹πŸ“Έ Photography

We'll take some photos and short clips during the event to capture the afternoon and share moments from our community.

By attending, you consent to being photographed. If you'd prefer not to be in photos, just let one of our hosts know when you arrive and we'll make sure to keep you out of frame.

β€‹πŸ’š About Read in the Park

Write in the Park is presented by Read in the Park, a reading community in San Francisco and Sunnyvale. We gather twice a month to read our own books in the park, then break into small groups so meeting new people feels natural. We are not a book club, not networking, just a slower way to find your people.

Write in the Park is a special edition we host for our community. Same spirit β€” gathering around one shared quiet experience β€” except this time, instead of reading, we write. You don't need to have come to a reading event to join. Come as you are.

For this one, we're writing.

Bring the thing you've been meaning to write. We'll make the time for it. ✍️🌿

See you in the Park!
