Can Automation Change the Economics of Building a Home?

Tuesday, September 22 · San Francisco

After a great evening with HiveASMBLD in Austin, we're bringing the conversation to San Francisco.

Join us for an intimate private-chef dinner with a curated group of Bay Area investors, founders and industry leaders exploring what happens when robotics, automation and construction collide.

At the center of the evening is HiveASMBLD, an automated construction company building a hybrid system that combines onsite 3D construction printing with prefabricated building components. The goal: build homes faster and at lower cost while creating more durable, efficient structures.

Over dinner, we'll hear directly from co-CEOs Tim Lankau and Ethan Wong about what they've learned from taking the technology into real-world construction projects, where the model goes from here, and what scaling automated construction could look like.

No conference hall or traditional pitch night. Just a small room, good food and great conversation with the people building it and other SF founders and investors.

At the table

Tim Lankau, JD
Co-CEO, HiveASMBLD

Ethan Wong
Co-CEO, HiveASMBLD

Chris Beaman
CEO, Astronomic · Host

Tim brings 20 years of construction experience, while Ethan's background spans engineering, finance and global supply chains, including experience at a construction automation company.

From our last HiveASMBLD Investor Dinner in Austin.

The conversation

Housing has a cost problem. Construction has a productivity problem. And despite years of excitement around 3D-printed homes, getting automation to work economically in the real world remains the harder challenge.

HiveASMBLD's approach combines onsite 3D construction printing with offsite panelized components, with proprietary technology spanning its printing materials, construction printers and software.

Around the table, we'll explore:

  • Where automation can meaningfully change construction economics

  • What it takes to move 3D construction printing beyond demonstrations into repeatable projects

  • The intersection of robotics, real estate and housing

  • What scaling an automated construction company actually looks like

And, as always, plenty of room for questions and candid discussion.

Who should join us?

This dinner will be particularly relevant for angels, VCs, family offices and strategic investors interested in:

PropTech · Construction Tech · Robotics · Real Estate · Housing · Industrial Automation

We're especially interested in bringing together investors comfortable with rapidly scaling private companies and those who can bring relevant industry perspective or relationships to the table.

The opportunity

HiveASMBLD is approaching its next stage of growth and is currently speaking with investors ahead of a potential Series A.

The dinner is an opportunity to meet Tim and Ethan directly, ask questions about the company and technology, and explore the opportunity without the formality of a traditional pitch meeting and with no pressure to invest.
