The idea
Most of us run our lives and work on a handful of big platforms. But there’s a whole world of open, privacy-friendly and community-run tools out there, and most people have never tried them.
So we’re spending a day asking: what does a freer, fairer web look like, and how do we help more people get there?
You might:
Explore what’s already out there: open-source tools, ethical hosting, independent AI, and the small teams building them.
Make switching easier with guides, migration tools, templates or friendly explainers.
Build something new where a good alternative doesn’t exist yet.
What to expect
Around 100 people: builders, designers, writers, marketers and curious minds.
One shared challenge, set by Tech for Palestine.
Ethical tools to build with, including Thaura Build and a curated stack of open alternatives for hosting, AI and design.
Show and tell at the end: share a prototype, guide or campaign, and how it could reach real people.
Promising projects can keep going with support from the Tech for Palestine Incubator, which has helped 90+ projects so far.
Who it’s for
Everyone. You don’t need to code. Teams need designers, writers, organisers and people who just love trying new tools. Come solo or bring friends. You’re also welcome to drop by and watch.
Bring: your laptop and charger.
Food is provided, with vegetarian and vegan options.
