About Event

One of France's most original voices on the digital and AI revolution comes to Hoche Hour.

Gilles Babinet has spent over 30 years at the forefront of the country's technological transformation: as a builder, as an advisor to heads of state, as a professor, and as an author. Few people in Europe carry both the entrepreneurial credibility and the policy depth to speak about AI with the authority he does.

A serial entrepreneur who built his first company at 22, Babinet went on to found companies across consulting, construction, mobile music, and co-creation: including Musiwave, sold for €139 million, and eYeka, whose co-creator community grew to 540,000 members and became the largest in the world. Seven startups. Four exits. The track record speaks for itself. Rather than retire to the sidelines, he stepped into the arena of public life. He was elected the first-ever President of the Conseil National du Numérique, advising the French government on digital matters, and subsequently named Digital Champion of France by the European Commission. He also serves as President of Mission Café IA, a national initiative that generated over 1,800 AI events across France in 2025.

He teaches at Sciences Po Paris, INSP, and HEC, has sat on the boards of EY and the EDF Foundation, and advises Fortune 500 CEOs. He has published seven books on the digital revolution. His latest, Le péril IA : Devenir des machines ou rester vivants ? (Le Passeur, May 2026), is his most urgent yet.

AI capabilities are expanding faster than our capacity to govern them. Value is concentrating in the hands of a few. Junior talent is at risk. Democracy is under pressure.

None of this stops Babinet from being constructive. In conversation with Jean-Rémi de Maistre, co-founder & CEO of Jus Mundi, Babinet will take us beyond the hype cycle and into the harder questions.

🔎 Topics we'll explore together:

  • The AI inflection point: what changed, and why the entrepreneur who built tech is now sounding the alarm

  • Who owns the value of AI? the structural threat to workers, communities, and professions

  • AI vs. democracy: how artificial intelligence is reshaping institutions, governance, and the rule of law

  • Europe's sovereignty moment: can the continent build its own AI future, or is the game already lost?

  • The human question: in a world where AI writes, researches, and decides, what does it mean to stay alive to what only humans can do?

Why you shouldn't miss this:

Whether you work in law, technology, policy, or at the intersection of all three, this conversation will challenge what you think you know. Not to paralyze, but to equip. Gilles Babinet has been in every room where France's digital future was decided. He's seen what goes wrong, and what's still possible. Come with your questions.
