About Event

For more than four decades, the Irish poet, John Liddy, has been a quiet but unmistakable presence in Madrid literary life. Always a part of the scene, encouraging, publishing and performing, he’s become one of the city's literary treasures.

His first collection of poems, Boundaries, appeared in 1974, an unusually young debut, and over the following decades he has published more than a dozen collections of poetry. A staunch supporter of other poets and writers, he was also the founding editor, along with Jim Burke, of The Stony Thursday Book, one of Ireland's longest running literary reviews.

His writing moves easily between Ireland, America and Spain, yet remains grounded in ordinary human settings - streets, bars, conversations and landscapes - giving his poetry both a distinctly Irish cadence and a quietly international outlook. The poet Desmond O’Grady observed that his work reflects, “the places he has lived in that forged his life”. We will be asking John about all that and more!

We look forward to seeing you on the 25th March!

This event is organised by Jayne Marshall and James Hartley.
