​​We'll be reading and discussing the paper: Toward an African Agenda for AI Safety

​This paper directly address a common concern we've seen throughout our community: How AI impacts the Global South, and what Africa's role in shaping AI Governance is.

​The paper lays out Africa's distinctive AI risks, from deepfake election interference and compute scarcity to labor disruption and environmental costs. It finds that only 26.8% of African states show concrete AI safety activity, and proposes a five-point action plan including establishing an African AI Safety Institute, building early warning systems for 25+ African languages, and creating an annual AU-level forum.
