DumplingFest was created in San Francisco in 2010 by Paymentwall in its early days.
Elders of the gaming industry say it began during GDC week as a small gathering known as the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Dinner Party.
Travelers arriving from China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia would meet founders, publishers, and operators from the West — sharing dumplings, beer, and ideas as the San Francisco fog settled in.
Deals were discussed. Friendships were formed. Bridges between markets were built.
As the tradition grew, the gathering became known simply as DumplingFest.
Those who know GDC… know DumplingFest.
Today, many of the world’s leading game companies are owned or backed by Asian companies. Asia now leads the global gaming industry, surpassing other regions.
2026 marks the Year of the Horse — a symbol of speed, strength, and momentum.
Tradition says the Horse year accelerates whatever good things you are already building.
Tonight we celebrate the year of acceleration.
Elders say in the legend that San Francisco dumplings carry special power.
