Every degree counts: catalysing feminist climate justice
The climate crisis is not gender neutral. Big polluting countries and companies are causing temperatures to rise, and every degree is deepening gender inequality. From the Torres Strait to Vanuatu to Kenya, women are bearing the brunt as climate disasters destroy their homes and undermine their livelihoods and food security. Women’s risk of sexual and gender-based violence is increasing as climate change drives conflict over water, land, and food. As temperatures push beyond 1.5 degrees, more women are being displaced from their homes and pushed further into poverty and insecurity.
The climate crisis is a women’s rights crisis. That’s why women are stepping up and answering the call. ActionAid works with women in the Pacific and globally who are leading climate action in their communities. Alongside, these locally-led efforts to respond to climate change, women are mobilising for a fossil fuel free feminist future and scaled up resourcing to address the gendered impacts of the climate crisis. Australia has an important role to play in these efforts and driving feminist systems change that tackles the root causes of the climate crisis and gender inequality.
That’s why ActionAid is launching a new campaign with partners to drive feminist climate justice in Australia and around the world. Join us to learn about women’s climate leadership and how you can join the movement for change.
This event is being held in partnership with Women’s Agenda and Green Collar. It will include the campaign launch and an interactive discussion on why feminist climate justice matters and how we can be part of driving change for women and the planet.
