MORNING WALK

1976@50 Soweto Community Commemoration Group, supported by Jozi My Jozi, Kick off the day with a spirited morning walk, tracing the footsteps of the 1976 generation.

Along the 9,1km route, walkers will be accompanied by live singing, a captivating tour experience, poetry, and protest theatre performances. Prepare for a day filled with inspiration, artistry, and a celebration of resilience.

  • 3. Confrontation Corner on Vilakazi & Moema Street

  • 4. Hector Pieterson Memorial & Museum

VILAKAZI STR EXPERIENCE

Following the commemorative morning walk, Vilakazi Street Restaurants, supported by Jozi My Jozi invite visitors to continue the celebration along the iconic Vilakazi Street, where history, culture, food, music, and entrepreneurship come together in a vibrant township experience.

Guests can enjoy brunch, lunch, and refreshments at more than ten restaurants and hospitality venues, each hosting its own unique activation featuring live music, DJs, cultural performances, and special Youth Day experiences throughout the day.

The precinct will also come alive with a curated market showcasing local entrepreneurs, fashion designers, artists, illustrators, creators, and small businesses. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover unique products, support local businesses, and engage directly with the innovators shaping South Africa’s creative economy, while supporting and strengthening Soweto’s visitor economy.
