Colour Grade with Intention
Colour Grading Workshop For Beginners (2 classes)
Your colour sense is already in there. This workshop helps you trust it. Two hands on sessions covering the fundamentals of colour grading in DaVinci Resolve. Taught through the Recess lens: slow, intentional, and grounded in craft over trends.
Before you arrive
Download DaVinci Resolve (free) at blackmagicdesign.com before Session 1. You'll need to bring your laptop. Everything else is provided, including footage to work with.
-
Session 1 — March 31st
start with the fundamental. How to see what's in your footage before you touch a single wheel.
Reading the scopes (waveform, parade, vectorscope)
Exposure and contrast correction
White balance on real footage
Working with S-Log3 — the flat, ungraded format Sony cameras shoot for maximum flexibility
Bring your own footage if you have it
You'll leave knowing how to take a flat, lifeless clip and bring it to a clean, balanced starting point.
Session 2 — April 11
With the foundation in place, we get into the more personal side of grading.
Colour wheels vs curves. When to use which
Building a simple, intentional node structure
Applying a look consistently across a sequence
Developing your own colour voice, not copying someone else's
This is where grading stops feeling like correction and starts feeling like expression.
