As AI becomes deeply embedded in society, different regions and cultures face varying levels of preparedness for its disruptive effects—some poised to benefit, others at risk of new forms of dependency.
This panel will explore the accelerating and consequential uses of AI that could shape a more utopian or dystopian future, as well as the subtle ways reliance on artificial knowledge may erode human agency, critical thinking, and local decision-making.
Special attention will be given to how emerging technologies may impact places like Argentina, as this country has some unique characteristics that could make it thrive greatly while other places struggle
Questions
What are practical ways to preserve human agency and critical thinking in an era where AI is increasingly automating decisions? Is this even the right question?
Are we just outsourcing our decision-making to global tech giants, letting them harvest local data and sell it back to us?
What happens when AI systems fail, get hacked, or make catastrophic errors that local institutions aren’t prepared to handle?
How many people truly understand how AI works, and does ignorance at the top lead to bad policy, hype, or dangerous adoption?
How will Argentine specifically thrive or survive with its unique circumstances? What are those unique circumstances?
How can we remain aware of all inherent dependencies in these technologies, be explicit about where we’re delegating trust, and effectively qualify those dependencies for potential threats?
