BERKELEY QUANTUM POLICY FORUM: Advancing Quantum Research in an Era of Hype and Paranoia
This Berkeley Quantum Policy Forum is a one-day gathering hosted by UC Berkeley Quantum and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The forum will bring together representatives from academia, national laboratories, government, established technology companies, and the quantum startup community for an open and candid discussion about the opportunities, challenges, and security considerations surrounding quantum research and emerging technology.
The goal of the forum is to encourage constructive dialogue among the different communities shaping the future of quantum science and technology. Participants will have an opportunity to share perspectives, better understand the concerns and responsibilities of others in the field, and discuss practical ways to support continued innovation while remaining aware of potential risks to research, intellectual property, personnel, and emerging technologies.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Quantum Research, Policy, and the Current Environment
Three moderated fireside discussions featuring perspectives from academia, national laboratories, government, and private industry on the current state of quantum research, emerging opportunities, and the broader policy and security environment.
Understanding the Threat Environment
An unclassified FBI presentation addressing the current threat environment surrounding emerging technologies, including potential solicitation and elicitation directed toward researchers, organizations, and technology.
Practical Counterelicitation and Research Protection
A practical discussion focused on recognizing and responding to concerning interactions, protecting research and intellectual property, and navigating professional conferences, international travel, collaborative relationships, and other situations researchers may encounter.
PURPOSE
The forum is intended to begin an ongoing conversation among the organizations and individuals working at the forefront of quantum research and development.
Our objective is to strengthen relationships across the quantum community, improve mutual understanding, and identify practical opportunities for continued engagement and collaboration.
