About Event

Two Spurs. One brief. Build tools that a Premier League club and an NBA franchise will both put to work.

Hotspur Labs, the corporate venture programme of Tottenham Hotspur delivered by TPF Labs at The Players Fund, is co-hosting the Spurs² Hackathon with the San Antonio Spurs, ScorePlay and TwelveLabs. Over two days in Austin, teams will tackle real content problems set by the executive teams of both clubs, using ScorePlay's platform and open API alongside TwelveLabs' video intelligence.

Why media
Performance data differs from sport to sport. Media does not. A football club and a basketball franchise face the same problem: thousands of photos and videos per game, complex rights attached to every one of them, and too few people to make the most of it. ScorePlay is the media infrastructure that teams, leagues and federations, including Tottenham Hotspur, already run their content operations on. Through ScorePlay Connect, you get direct access to build on it, with TwelveLabs' video AI to understand what is actually in the footage.

The challenges
Choose one of two:

  1. Assisted Auto-Production Engine. Clubs capture hundreds to thousands of assets per game but have little bandwidth to reuse them. Build an engine that combines live data, fan reaction on social media and what the AI sees in the footage to decide which new photo and video content to make, then makes it for different fan audiences. The producer approves rather than searches.

  2. Rights and Compliance. Every asset carries rules on territory, platform, competition, sponsor visibility and expiry. Build an interface that checks each asset against league and regional rules, writes the verdict and reasoning back onto the asset, and shows in seconds what can be used, where and for how long.

How it works

  • Thursday morning: Challenge briefings and context from Tottenham Hotspur, the San Antonio Spurs, ScorePlay and TwelveLabs

  • Thursday afternoon to Friday morning: Teams build, with technical support from the ScorePlay and TwelveLabs teams

  • Friday afternoon: Final presentations to a judging panel drawn from Tottenham Hotspur, the San Antonio Spurs, ScorePlay and TwelveLabs

Who should apply
Developers, engineers, data scientists, designers and product builders with an interest in sport, media or AI. You can apply as an individual or as a team of 2–4. Experience with video, computer vision, LLMs or media workflows is useful but not required.

What you get

  • Hands-on access to the media infrastructure used by professional clubs, plus TwelveLabs' video intelligence

  • Problems set by, and solutions presented to, decision-makers at a Premier League club and an NBA team

Apply by Friday 9 October. Places are limited and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applying does not guarantee a place, and you will be contacted if successful.
