About Event

September is National Preparedness month - let’s get prepared together with a hands-on climate preparedness workshop with CORE. Join us for a night of community building and resilience, including a screening of the award-winning documentary, Healing Lahaina, and a “pack a go bag” workshop so we can be ready together.

We will have a limited amount of backpacks available for attendees, but encourage you to BYOB (bring your own bag) if you have one at home!

ABOUT HEALING LAHAINA

As the climate crisis continues to exacerbate extreme weather events, it is crucial to know how to be prepared in the event of a climate change fueled disaster. In 2023, disaster struck as Director Laurel Tamayo’s family lost their multigenerational home in the 2023 Lahaina wildfire, the deadliest wildfire in modern US history. Through personal recounts, this documentary paints an intimate portrait of survival, climate change and colonization, and community resilience.

What can we learn from the Aloha Spirit and the rebuilding process of Lahaina in order to heal the communities of Altadena, Pacific Palisades, and Los Angeles at large? Join us in building resilience and taking back control as a community.

ABOUT CORE

All proceeds from this event directly support CORE’s Emergency Response Fund and Global Climate Resiliency Program.

Who We Are: Founded after the 2010 Haiti earthquake by Sean Penn and Ann Lee, CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) is a global humanitarian organization based in Los Angeles with local offices in North Carolina, Georgia, Ukraine, Sudan, and Haiti. CORE’s community-powered work is informed and fueled by local hands. With a focus on equity, CORE provides critical relief to marginalized and vulnerable people, from the frontlines of the conflict in Ukraine, to hurricane-impacted areas in the United States and beyond.

Our Mission: We empower communities in and beyond crisis. We envision a more equitable world in which underserved communities are prepared and can effectively respond to crisis from within.
