Securing You! is a cybersecurity awareness talk designed to empower individuals with the tools and knowledge to protect their digital lives. The session covers critical topics such as identifying and avoiding social engineering attacks and phishing scams, effectively reporting cybersecurity incidents, practicing safe internet browsing, and enhancing social media security. Attendees will also learn how to safeguard their online identity as well as understanding the implications of data breaches, and secure remote access for work and personal use. Whether you're a professional, student, or everyday internet user, this talk provides actionable insights to stay one step ahead of cyber threats and create a safer online experience.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Maryam Tanha is an assistant teaching professor at Northeastern University's Khoury College of Computer Sciences, based in Vancouver. She received her PhD in Computer Science from the University of Victoria in 2019, following an MSc in Network and Communications Engineering from University of Putra Malaysia and a BSc in Software Engineering from Yazd University in Iran. Dr. Tanha's research focuses on Android malware detection and the design of resilient software-defined networks. Prior to joining Northeastern, she was a faculty member at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), where she led initiatives in applied computer science and conducted research on machine learning applications in mobile security. Her industry experience includes developing banking, video streaming, and mobile applications. Dr. Tanha is also committed to mentoring and increasing the representation of women in technology fields.
