Founders Unfiltered: In conversation with Daniel Lord-Doyle, Mary Technology

​Daniel Lord-Doyle is one of four co-founders of Mary Technology, a Sydney company building what it calls a Fact Management System for law firms.

​The problem is unglamorous and enormous. Before a lawyer can think about strategy, someone has to read thousands of emails, notes and records and work out what actually happened, in what order, and who was involved. It takes days. Sometimes weeks. Mary does it automatically, with every fact traceable back to the document it came from.

​Two years in, it's used by more than 2,000 lawyers, including Shine Lawyers, Maurice Blackburn and Hall & Wilcox. The company raised $7m earlier this year, went through A&O Shearman's FUSE accelerator, and is now opening in San Francisco.

​Daniel came to it sideways. Sales first, then close to a decade as a software engineer, and this is his second company. He's joining us to talk about selling into one of the most change-resistant industries there is, building with four founders, and what the last two years have actually cost.
