From Figma plugins and design.mds to a production-code prototype environment, the Zalando Design System team has built a wide suite of tools using AI to solve our own pain points. However, the artifact was never the hard part; the decision behind it was. Part showcase, part honest reflection, this talk explores how technical curiosity pushed us to solve our own problems, go beyond, and the heavy lifting required to document it.

⭐️ Hawkins: Evolving a Design System for Humans and Agents
Hawkins Professional, Netflix's enterprise design system, now has a new kind of user: AI agents building alongside our designers and engineers. Left unchecked, AI can quietly drift from the system's rules — so we built guardrails to keep agents working inside the system instead of around it.
We'll walk through what those guardrails look like, and where we're headed next: a shared source of truth that code and design tools both read from, keeping humans and AI aligned on the same rules.
