Plato Reading Group
Welcome! In this group we're going to be diving into two of Plato's famous dialogues together - the Meno and the Phaedrus.
These two dialogues explore topics such as:
Can virtue be taught?
What is knowledge and how does it work?
What is the relationship of memory to knowledge?
What is the nature of love?
What role does rhetoric play in philosophy?
Can philosophy ever be written down?
And more!
The goal of this group is to have engaging and respectful conversations with each other about the themes, topics, and validity of some of the most famous and beautiful works of philosophy ever written. We'll treat Plato's works as serious works to be reckoned with, and challenge each other to defend our viewpoints.
I highly recommend signing up even if you have never read Plato at all! This is an amateur reading group with no prerequisites or assumption of knowledge, except for a committed desire to learn and participate in the groups each week.
A bit about me: I've read about 10 of Plato's dialogues over the last couple years, as well as many other philosophers and thinkers from classical antiquity. Last season of Campus I led a similar group on Shakespeare's plays. I have a deep interest in the world of classic literature, and am excited to meet others who have a similar interest :)
