Writers Meet-Up: On Loneliness
In an increasingly connected yet lonely world, what does it mean to truly know—and be known by—another person? Join Lit Club NYC and Little, Brown for an interactive writing salon inspired by Lonely Crowds by Stephanie Wambugu as we explore loneliness, intimacy, friendship, and our enduring desire for connection through conversation, close observation, and guided writing.
Together, we'll examine the many forms loneliness can take: the distance that can exist within friendships, the longing to belong, the strange intimacy of being alone in a crowd, and the ways our increasingly online lives can bring us closer while keeping us apart.
Through thoughtful prompts, writing exercises, and small-group discussion, we will experiment with translating these experiences to the page—using memory, observation, character, and voice to explore both solitude and connection.
The evening will conclude with an optional live reading for anyone interested in sharing their work, followed by time to connect with fellow writers and readers.
No prior writing experience is required, and sharing is always optional. Come to write, reflect, meet fellow creative people, and leave with fresh ideas, new connections, and perhaps a few new pages.
