The “Black Box” Behind Translation & AI: What Happens in LLMs and How It Ties into Local Communities
Attend our workshop where we’ll reimagine San Jose as a more inclusive city for people who speak different languages. Together, we’ll explore how Large Language Models (LLMs) and Al translation make San Jose more visually and culturally accessible for its diverse communities.
Please note that a Laptop is recommended to participate in the planned activity
This interactive session will feature a custom-coded translation environment where participants will translate informational signs, culturally specific phrases, and place names-- and see Natural Language Processing in action.
As we uncover how tokenization can alter meaning, we’ll open a discussion about how design and technology can work together to create more accurate and inclusive translations.
All majors are welcomed and invited to get involved with the intersection between Machine Learning and Linguistics. We encourage all to attend who are interested in learning of how AI can shape how we view and interact with the world around us.
