Climate Cafe + The Sharing Economy
Join Climate Cafe NYC, Rentah, and Reclaim Planet Earth for a discussion on climate emotions and how we can all take part in the sharing economy to build a better future. Meet us on the ground floor of Pier 57 in the public living room area. Snacks will be provided!
We suggest a donation of $5 to cover food and materials, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
Climate Cafe NYC is a climate action community based in New York City. Our community helps you face your climate anxiety, connects you to impactful local organizing, and keeps you motivated through camaraderie, creativity, and fun. We’re cultivating a more human climate movement to defeat burnout and achieve the scale we need to succeed.
Anup Desai is an educator, entrepreneur, and community-builder based in New York City. He is the founder of Rentah, a commission-free sharing platform that helps people and businesses rent out anything — goods, services, or spaces — locally and sustainably.
After teaching geography and international relations as an adjunct Professor for the City University of New York to thousands of students across NYC, Anup built Rentah to address a simple problem: people own valuable things that sit unused, while others are forced to overpay or overconsume. And it’s not just products…. Many of our talents go unused as well! Rentah reconnects communities by making access easier, supporting small businesses and freelancers, and keeping money local.
Rentah is used by individuals, creators, and businesses to:
Earn from what they already own
Discover affordable, local rental options
Reduce waste through access over ownership
Build real, trust-based local economies
The platform is free to use, community-driven, and designed as an alternative to extractive marketplaces — putting people before commissions and access before excess.
Reclaim Planet Earth is a climate action nonprofit. Our goal is to make every day a day of climate action with practical, daily, eco-friendly tips of what you can do to slow global warming and live sustainably.
