Field Notes: Our Local Economy

​Pittsburgh's economy is built by people creating and operating companies, organizations, and new ideas across a wide range of industries: from AI, robotics, and life sciences to professional services, nonprofits, design, education, and other locally rooted businesses.

​Some are building high-growth companies in emerging technology clusters. Others are running small firms, serving clients, leading organizations, teaching, designing, and building independently. Together, they form the broader ecosystem that turns individual successes into momentum our whole city can feel.

​Field Day and Carnegie Mellon are bringing these communities into the same room. The event is an opportunity for founders, operators, CMU alumni, and other Pittsburgh builders to exchange perspectives, build relationships, and explore the challenges and opportunities shaping the region's next chapter.

​This is a participatory event. Attendees are guided by facilitators and invited to contribute their own perspective. No keynote and no panel. A short welcome, then facilitated groups that work through the same questions together, each led by a facilitator who reports back what their table surfaced. We are here to listen, compare notes, and work out what would make Pittsburgh a better place to build. We'll close with drinks at the Lobby Bar, and we'll publish what the room surfaces.
