​The Climate Party® is building a Scenius - collective genius - for Climate solutions in India.

​Climate Parties are a series of immersive learning & ecosystem building events curated to enable interdisciplinary solutionists, either already working in or seriously considering a transition to the Climate space, to discover more of their kind across domains and cross-pollinate ideas for collaborative action.

​About the event

​Batteries run our life...The phone in your hand, the buds in our ears, the EVs on our streets, the inverter that rescues upon power cut & the grid storage backing India's solar story.

​‼️The uncomfortable truth - almost nothing inside those batteries is ours yet‼️

​India imports 100% of the lithium, cobalt and nickel we use. China processes roughly two-thirds of the world's lithium and cobalt, and over 90% of its graphite. Our critical mineral demand is set to more than double by 2030, while domestic mines are still a decade away from producing. Every cell we plug in is a quiet IOU to someone else's supply chain, and recent export curbs have shown exactly how fast that chain can be squeezed.

​So where does a country find minerals it doesn't yet have?

​We're taking you behind the scenes at LICO Materials' facility to see exactly how! Here, end-of-life batteries meet one of two fates: cells with enough life left take rebirth as second-life energy storage, and the rest are shredded into black mass, from which critical minerals are recovered, right here in Bengaluru.

​We begin with the big picture - why battery circularity is a mineral security requirement, and where recycling and reuse sit in India's indigenization push.

​🏭 Guided walkthrough of the facility

​Through the guided tour, you will see:

​1/ the warehouse, where incoming batteries are segregated: packs still holding above ~80% of their cycle life head for a second innings, the rest are marked for the shredder;

​2/ the extraction line, where spent batteries are processed into black mass, the concentrate from which critical minerals are recovered;

​3/ the refurbishment bay, where healthy cells are repurposed into Li-grid energy storage systems; and

​4/ how these two verticals together chip away at India's import bill and close the loop on the battery supply chain.
