About Event

The Consulate General of Canada in New York, the Dialogue on Technology Project, and All Tech Is Human invite you to join us on October 28, 3:30–5:30 PM, for a cross-border conversation on youth safety and digital rights online. This is an official pre-summit event for All Tech Is Human's Responsible Tech Summit.

In June 2026, the Government of Canada introduced Bill C-34, the Safe Social Media Act - landmark legislation that would restrict social media accounts for users under 16, impose age-assurance and design obligations on platforms and AI chatbot services, and create a new Digital Safety Commission. As the bill makes its way through Parliament, it has reignited a debate familiar on both sides of the border: how to protect young people online without eroding the privacy and expressive rights of all users.

This event brings together leading Canadian and American researchers, youth advocates, and civil liberties experts to examine what safe, rights-respecting governance of social media and AI chatbots should look like - and what lessons Canada and the U.S. can draw from each other's approaches.

The program will feature two panel discussions followed by a networking reception. Registration is required for attendance. Please note this invitation is not transferable - reach out to the organizers if you'd like to share with a colleague.
