An In-Person Masterclass with Jingan Young

£48

Limited to 30 participants

Have an idea for a television drama but don’t know how to turn it into something producers, commissioners and agents actually want to read? Are you already making short films with a view to make the jump into TV?

Join award-winning television writer, academic and journalist, Jingan Young for an intensive masterclass exploring how television drama is developed in today’s industry, from the first spark of an idea through to pitch documents, to understanding "in development" with broadcasters, streamers and production companies.

Jingan is a writer on ITV’s hit thriller Red Eye (S1 & 2) BBC’s forthcoming legal drama Counsels, and currently BBC Studios’ Crookhaven Series 2. She has also worked in writers’ rooms across the UK industry and is currently developing original series with leading production companies including Carnival Films, Black Camel Pictures and others. She is represented by Curtis Brown.

Drawing directly from her experience developing projects for broadcasters, streamers and production companies, Jingan will share the practical tools, creative frameworks and industry insight that shape successful television drama, from developing an idea that has genuine series potential to pitching it with confidence.

During the masterclass you’ll explore:

  • Creating worlds that can sustain multiple episodes and future seasons

  • Writing effective loglines, treatments and pitch documents

  • The (ups and downs!) realities of television development and how projects evolve

  • The most common mistakes writers make and how to avoid them

The morning combines practical exercises, real-life development case studies, discussion and an extended Q&A in a supportive environment, covering writing careers, representation, pitching and breaking into the television industry.

Whether you’re developing your first original drama or refining a project already in progress, you’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how television ideas become commissionable series and the tools to develop your own work with confidence.

Suitable for: Emerging writers, playwrights, novelists, screenwriters and anyone interested in creating original television drama.

Venue is still to be confirmed but will be in central London and near major transport links, wheelchair accessible.
