About Will
Will Niava is a Montreal based director and screenwriter who tells stories you feel in your chest. His work is visceral and character driven, the kind of filmmaking that holds you on the edge of your seat and stays with you long after it’s over. His films have gone to hundreds of festivals worldwide, including his short Jazz Infernal, which premiered at TIFF and won the Sundance Short Film Jury Award for International Fiction, while his short Zoo now sits in the Criterion Collection. His feature Paradise, co written with Oscar nominated director Jeremy Comte, opened in Berlinale’s Panorama section.
Turn to his commercial and music video work and something shifts, the register changes key: dynamic, fast paced, flashy, unafraid to look you dead in the eye. He has brought that same conviction to campaigns for the World Cup, the NBA, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Orange, and to artists like Billie Eilish and H.E.R. Raised between Ivory Coast and Ghana and trained as a filmmaker at Concordia University, Will is a director whose global eye is only getting sharper, and whose next film might be the one everyone’s talking about.
