Berlin Bird Walk for tired techies
Birding is just noticing, on purpose. It is also the one skill most of us in tech quietly lost.
You are good at your job. Maybe even very good. But for a while now, you have been wondering what for. You perform, you deliver, and the work keeps drifting further from what actually matters to you.
This is a slow walk through the Tiergarten, looking for birds. Two hours, easy pace. No binoculars or bird knowledge needed, nothing to prepare. The point is to slow down enough to notice what is already there: the sounds you walk past every day, the birds that were around the whole time, how much is going on the moment you stop rushing through it.
And it is not only about the birds. Paying attention outward has a way of sharpening the attention inward. Off the roadmap, both kinds: the path through the park, and the career path you have quietly started to question. You do not want a new job. You want work that counts. Something that feels like real life, not the next sprint. If that is somewhere in you, this walk is for you.
I led data teams for ten years, at Lovoo and Komoot. At some point it stopped feeling right. I did not have a plan. I had my curiosity and I started to pay attention. That turned out to be all that mattered.
A few practical things. We meet Wednesday, 5 August at 18:30 near the Tiergarten, exact spot once you are in. It is free. I take one person per company, so nobody has to walk with that question next to someone from their own team. Light rain, we walk. Real weather, I will message you at least a day before.
