Accessibility Meetup: Accessibility through real lived experience
Can your residents complete the journey?
Accessibility through real lived experience
Automated accessibility checks are an important first step, but they do not always show whether people can actually use a service.
For our September Accessibility Meetup, we have invited MyWeb Access to run a live, interactive session with disabled testers using assistive technology. They will work through real council journeys on screen and talk through what they experience as they go.
We are looking for 2 or 3 volunteer councils to nominate an everyday task from their own website for live testing. Good examples include:
Finding a property’s Council Tax band and annual charge.
Applying for a Blue Badge.
Completing an online form.
Downloading and using a council PDF.
Reporting a missed bin collection.
This is a chance to learn together. By testing real council journeys live, we can see where residents get stuck, even when a page looks fine on an automated scan.
If your council would like to volunteer a journey for testing, please email Aaron at community@localgovdrupal.org. Places are first come, first served, with priority given to subscribing councils.
