Doorways & New Beginnings
An Evening of Art, Story & Conversation
What stories, people, and places made us who we are? Which parts of our cultures, backgrounds, and experiences shape our voice, and influence how we share our stories with the world?
On Friday evening, June 19, we invite you to an intimate evening of art, storytelling, and conversation inside Hoàng Anh's acclaimed exhibition, Ghế Đỏ (The Red Chair) at Wiking Salon, a gorgeous multi-sensory art space in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.
The red plastic chair is one of Vietnam's most familiar objects — found everywhere from street corners to family gatherings, it's where we gather, eat, nhậu / celebrate, reflect, and connect with one another.
Centering around Hoàng Anh's acclaimed exhibition as our starting point, we'll explore and reflect on our heritage, transformation, community, and the people whose shoulders we stand on.
The artist reimagines historic Vietnamese stamps by enlarging and subtly altering them with the addition of a painted red plastic chair. This minimal gesture creates a temporal dissonance where past and present quietly converge.
The red chair emerges as a symbol of Vietnamese daily life, resilience, and communal culture, while also evoking the idea of the “third space” — a site of gathering, exchange, and identity beyond home and work. Blending archival imagery with contemporary intervention, The Red Chair reflects on memory, material culture, and the spirit of community.
This is an art and storytelling salon, in a gorgeous multi-sensory art space, and a curated circle of leaders, creators, artists, and cultural bridge-builders sharing stories.
You are also invited to also just come and reflect quietly with the artwork. Sometimes, the most transformational and inspiring conversations are within ourselves.
Our Evening
🖼️ Guided Art Meditation — experience The Red Chair through a group reflective practice to slow down, observe, and uncover personal meaning.
🗣️ Storytelling Circles — small-group conversations on belonging, identity, heritage, and the journeys that shaped us.
🍷 Dinner & Conversation — a grazing dinner, celebratory toasts, and a taste of the exhibition's highland herbal rice wine tradition (optional).
Two Questions guide our circles:
If you could place your own red chair somewhere in the story of Vietnam, where would it be?
Whose shoulders are you standing on — and whose journey are you helping to lift?
This evening is for cross-cultural creators, leaders, entrepreneurs, community builders, and globally minded leaders who value reflection, and meaningful conversation — a curated room of thoughtful people across generations, industries, and cultures, gathered in curiosity and celebration.
