Chainmail Lucky Badge Workshop
Chainmail Lucky Badge Workshop
Learn the fundamentals of chainmail construction!
Join us for a hands-on introduction to chainmail jewelry and accessory making with Brooklyn-based artist and designer Gail Minicozzi of Holy Gail. In this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of traditional European chainmail weaving while creating a wearable “lucky badge”.
Through demonstrations and guided hands-on practice, Gail will introduce students to the foundational techniques used in chainmail construction, focusing on the classic European weave. Participants will learn how individual metal rings connect to create flexible, sculptural surfaces while gaining familiarity with the tools, rhythm, and precision involved in the process.
Using stainless steel jump rings, charms, and pin backs, each participant will build a small custom chainmail badge that can be worn on clothing, bags, or displayed as a personal talisman. Along the way, students will gain an understanding of the core techniques behind chainmail construction, providing a strong foundation for future experimentation with jewelry, accessories, and larger wearable pieces.
This workshop is designed for all skill levels and emphasizes patience, craftsmanship, and playful exploration through metalwork. Whether you’re interested in fashion, adornment, historical craft, or simply learning a new hands-on skill, this session offers an approachable introduction to the art of chainmail.
At the end of the session, we’ll come together for a group review to share and celebrate each person’s work.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a finished chainmail lucky badge pin and the foundational skills to continue exploring chainmail techniques on your own.
