CITRIS Tech Policy Conversation: Governing AI Safety, Catastrophic Risk, and Public Harms
How can policymakers, researchers and technology leaders address the full spectrum of AI risks, from catastrophic threats to the harms affecting people and communities today?
Join the CITRIS Tech Policy Initiative on Tuesday, December 8 for the next installment in the Tech Policy Conversation series, featuring a keynote conversation with California State Chief Information Officer Chris Given and CITRIS Executive Director Camille Crittenden.
As artificial intelligence reshapes government, industry and everyday life, effective governance requires collaboration across sectors and disciplines.
A cross-sector panel of experts representing government, industry, labor, civil society and academia will examine emerging approaches to AI safety and accountability. Panelists will explore policy priorities ranging from California's frontier AI safety legislation (SB 53) to automated decision-making, algorithmic bias and online safety for children.
Panelists include:
Vera Zakem, California Department of Technology
Margaret Tucker, GitHub
Robbie Torney, Common Sense Media
Will Fithian, UC Berkeley
The program will also feature lightning talks highlighting university-led tech policy initiatives, followed by a reception and student research poster showcase.
Join us for an afternoon of timely discussion, cross-sector collaboration, and new perspectives on advancing safe, equitable and responsible AI innovation. The program will be followed by a reception in the Kvamme Atrium.
