In more detail: Co-hosted by the Australian Land Conservation Alliance (ALCA) and Cyan Ventures, we will host a Climate Action Week event focused on the role of investment in halting and reversing biodiversity loss, aligned with the nature and biodiversity theme of the week. The event will combine a short presentation with a panel discussion, designed to engage policymakers, finance sector and land sector stakeholders on how to scale investment in nature in Australia. The session will open with a brief presentation on ALCA’s newly launched Nature Spend Tracker and insights report on the case for nature investment. Today, Australia’s biodiversity is in decline. Despite the urgency to increase investment to halt the biodiversity loss, the true level of current investment remains unclear, making it difficult to track & assess investments in biodiversity and nature. ALCA’s Nature Spend Tracker is the first tool that provides a structured method to record nature-related spending across the public, private, and philanthropic sectors. The Tracker provides a transparent baseline of expenditure on biodiversity, addressing a critical evidence gap in understanding how much Australia currently invests in nature and how this is changing over time. The presentation on the Nature Spend Tracker and case for nature insights will be followed by a moderated panel discussion on how to increase investment in biodiversity and nature, moving from measurement to action.
ALCA is Australia’s peak body for the conservation sector with members representing a diverse mix of for-purpose and not-for-profits working to protect, restore and manage nature, with a strong focus on mobilising finance for nature at scale.
