Behind the Scenes at Feldman Mortuary: Understanding the Jewish Journey After Death
Demystifying the sacred journey from death to burial through the lens of Jewish tradition.
Presented by:
Devora Yellin, JADE Death Educator, and Jamie Sarche, Director of Pre-Planning, Feldman Mortuary.
----
Death is something we all have in common, yet many of us know very little about what actually happens when someone dies.
Join the Jewish Association for Death Education (JADE) for a unique behind-the-scenes tour of Feldman Mortuary, Denver's Jewish funeral home. Together, we will demystify the practical and sacred steps that take place between the moment of death and burial.
Jamie Sarche, Director of Pre-Planning at Feldman Mortuary, will guide us through the funeral home, explaining the role of the mortuary, funeral planning, transportation, and the care provided to families. You will have the opportunity to see spaces that are not typically open to the public and ask questions in a welcoming, educational environment.
JADE Death Educator Devora Yellin will provide the Jewish context of what happens from the time of death through transport, shmirah (watching over the deceased), taharah (ritual preparation of the body), the funeral, and burial. Together, we will explore how Jewish traditions offer dignity, compassion, and sacred care during one of life's most profound transitions.
Whether you are planning ahead, caring for aging parents, interested in Jewish traditions, or simply curious about what happens after death, this program offers an opportunity to replace uncertainty with understanding.
What you'll experience:
• A guided tour of Feldman Mortuary
• An overview of Jewish end-of-life and funeral traditions
• Learn what happens from the time of death through burial
• Time for questions and conversation with both presenters
This is an educational program. No prior knowledge is necessary, and all are welcome.
Please note: Because this is an active funeral home, we ask all participants to approach the space with respect and sensitivity.
