Brazil at a Crossroads: From COP30 to the 2026 Elections

​Brazilians will go to the polls on October 4, and the outcome could shape the country's climate and environmental policies for years to come—with far-reaching consequences for the Amazon and other threatened ecosystems, for Indigenous peoples and traditional communities, and for the global effort to confront climate change.

​The vote comes in the final months of Brazil's COP presidency, less than a year after it hosted COP30 in Belém. This panel examines Brazil's year at the center of global climate diplomacy—the ambitions of its COP presidency, what it has been able to deliver, and what the October election could mean for the direction it takes next.
