Does the Carbon Market Actually Work?

​This event will center around a short documentary film that showcases a cross-section of Americans who are passionate about their land, and want to see a better future for themselves and their families. In this film, we meet landowners from all walks of life who have one thing in common — they have decided the best thing for their land, and their families, is to make their land a part of the climate solution and earn new income through carbon revenue.

​From capping oil wells that were abandoned and are leaking methane, to converting a former peanut farm to native forests, we learn about what motivates people to make this choice. As these projects remove or prevent carbon pollution beyond what is common practice, they generate carbon credits. The sale of these carbon credits to companies with voluntary climate commitments help pay the landowners for their critical role in these climate solutions. This film gives voice to the hard-working, thoughtful people planning and implementing these projects. It offers a new perspective on the systems and behavior change that can last for multiple generations, financed through the voluntary carbon market..
