【Artist Talk】The Contemporary Becoming of Classical Spirit 古典精神的当代生成
As part of the exhibition Ink Becoming, artist Chen Hanqing joins curator Rick Shi in a conversation exploring how his practice continually generates a contemporary visual language rooted in the dialogue between tradition and the present.
Using Sentiments Among Flowers and Song of the Great Wind as points of departure, the discussion revisits the evolution of the artist's practice, examining how lived experience, close observation of nature, historical consciousness, and spatial thinking have shaped his artistic language. Together, the speakers will reflect on how contemporary ink painting can continue the spirit of tradition while responding to the realities and sensibilities of our time.
More than a conversation about painting, this talk is an exploration of becoming itself. As tradition is reimagined not as a boundary but as a point of departure, ink unfolds as a living language—one that continues to evolve, opening new possibilities for contemporary artistic expression.
