Lunch Series: Celtic Conversations with Author Dr. Liz Rushen
This regular lunch series will feature insights and an engaging presentation from a special guest speaker in our community, enjoyed over a delicious catered set lunch and the opportunity to connect with fellow Club members in a welcoming setting.
Our upcoming guest speaker is author Dr Liz Rushen, who will discuss her acclaimed 2022 book Garryowen Unmasked: The Life of Edmund Finn. Rushen’s work explores the life of Irish journalist Edmund Finn, whose formative years in troubled Ireland shaped his politics and worldview. Migrating to Melbourne in 1841, Finn became a passionate advocate for his faith and community, playing a significant role in shaping colonial Melbourne through his writing, speeches and leadership of the St Patrick’s Society. As Professor Elizabeth Malcolm notes, “An important chronicler of early Melbourne, the Irish journalist Edmund Finn, has been unjustly neglected. A detailed study of his life and work is overdue, and therefore Dr Rushen’s book is to be welcomed.”
Your ticket includes the presentation and insights from Dr Rushen, along with a catered two-course set lunch prepared by Chef Dargan and the Wild Geese team.
