Elijah Shiffer's City Of Birds: Volume V Album Release Show

Elijah Shiffer's City Of Birds: Volume V Album Release Show

This show celebrates the release of Volume V (New Tropics) in Elijah Shiffer's series of City Of Birds albums. City Of Birds is a collection of jazz compositions dedicated to all the birds of New York City. Volume V pays tribute to the visitors: "vagrants", birds that show up here outside their species' typical range, and "escapes", formerly captive birds that have established wild populations.

For some of this music, the usual combo instrumentation for City Of Birds will be augmented with a string quartet.

Artist: Elijah Shiffer's City Of Birds

City Of Birds is a collection of jazz compositions by alto saxophonist Elijah Shiffer, dedicated to the birds of New York City.

Elijah takes inspiration from birds in many elements of their lives including their voices, their behaviors, and their habitats. This music is typically performed in a chordless quartet setting: alto sax, tenor sax, bass, and drums. Four albums of this music have been released so far; more are scheduled in fall 2026 and beyond.

Elijah played this music at the American Ornithological Society conference in 2024 and plans to perform for other bird and nature organizations in the near future.
