What Happens When AI can Understand, Simulate, Generate, and Reason about Transport Systems?

Artificial intelligence in transportation is advancing rapidly. Much of today's practical deployment focuses on familiar applications: computer vision, prediction, asset inspection, traffic management, and back-office productivity.

But where is the research frontier?

Can AI build world models of transportation systems? Can it simulate social and human behavior? Can multimodal AI reason simultaneously across networks, images, text, sensor data, and physical space? Can generative AI create transportation and urban design alternatives? And could AI eventually help researchers not only analyze data, but formulate and test scientific hypotheses?

Speakers:

Lijun Sun — Associate Professor, McGill University
Xuan (Sharon) Di — Associate Professor, Columbia University
Shenhao Wang — Assistant Professor, University of Florida
