AI at the International Linguistics Olympiad: A Fireside Chat on Linguistic Reasoning with LLMs

​Join a fireside chat with guests Dan Mirea (Princeton University) and Eduardo Sanchez (UCL and Meta), hosted by Julia Kreutzer (Cohere Labs), to discuss a new collaboration with the IOL (International Linguistics Olympiad), where selected AI systems will be evaluated alongside human participants on linguistics reasoning problems.

Along with inviting you to join the challenge, the conversation will introduce the motivation behind it: to better understand where current AI reasoning models succeed or struggle in linguistics, a domain that remains underexplored compared to math and coding. The goal is to use the competition as a scientific probe into the capabilities and limitations of today's AI reasoning. We will discuss what it takes to succeed at the IOL, and what remains to be challenging for reasoning models.
