Waves of Affirmation
Waves of Affirmation is an event held to give our transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse community and their loved ones an opportunity to swim in a safe and affirming environment. The pool will only be open to Waves of Affirmation attendees. Lifeguards will be present. The event location will be in Middletown RI and the exact location will be emailed to those who RSVP as a privacy precaution. Important locker room information is listed below as well as the pool rules which must be adhered to.
Regarding use of locker rooms:
They have Men's, Women's, and Universal locker rooms for use by participants. Unfortunately we were unable to get sole use of the locker rooms so we are unable to mark them as gender neutral or promise their exclusive use. They did say the Universal locker room is perfect for those individuals who may be uncomfortable using the single-gender locker rooms, as it has all individual changing stalls, as well as 3 all-in-one shower, sink, toilet combo rooms, with an added accessible single toilet and accessible shower. The Universal Locker Room is also perfect for families. They just require that no one walks around unclothed in the Universal Locker Room. All changing must take place behind closed doors.
Pool Rules:
Hair longer than shoulder length must be put up (they have a thousand extra hair elastics if needed), and proper bathing suits should be worn.
They understand the population they're serving, so they just ask that no cotton clothing goes in the pool. Not only does it stretch out and can become dangerous, but it sheds fibers with the chlorinated water and can clog filters over time.
All participants are required by state law to shower before entering the pool.
If there's any children attending, if they are under the age of 8, there must be an adult within arm's reach of them in the water. If they are over the age of 8 but cannot swim, they too must have an adult within arm's reach of them. Any non-swimmers need to wear lifejackets and stay in the shallow side of the pool.
Our Rules:
No photography or video/audio recording.
