About Event

Join us at Collective Z for an intimate evening pairing contemporary abstraction with live music, held inside Bill Burns' solo exhibition Between Structure and Spirit.

Burns' solo brings together new paintings where a lifetime of design-trained precision gives way to luminous, atmospheric color. Working in patient, accumulated layers, he begins in language and sketch before letting the canvas dissolve structure into light — where feeling, not form, becomes the organizing principle. The works ask to be lived with: surfaces that reveal themselves slowly, rewarding stillness.

That evening, James Fox — of the rock project SpaceMachine, whose 2026 album Space Machine, 13 channels a restless, experimental take on rock 'n' roll — will perform a stripped-down acoustic set amid the paintings. Pulled out of the band's full electric register and into the quiet of the gallery, the songs meet Burns' canvases on their own terms: structure held just loosely enough for spirit to pass through.

Wine will be served. Works will be available for acquisition. Space is limited — please RSVP.
