About Event
This session is part of the Introduction to Political Technology course at Newspeak House, open to faculty and fellowship candidates only.
Transparency can be a necessary tool for achieving fairness and accountability in complex multi-party systems, but it is far from sufficient.
In this session we’ll cover cryptographic building blocks and definitions of transparency, and discuss numerous examples to explore the extent to which transparency in both technical and human-oriented systems has been used or able to achieve meaningful notions of fairness.
Sarah Meiklejohn is a Professor in Cryptography and Security at University College London. She has broad research interests across cryptography, privacy, and online safety for at-risk users.
