WISE-NYC: Volunteer on Governors Island with Billion Oyster Project
WISE-Volunteer is excited to return on Governors Island for another Billion Oyster Project day this fall. Volunteers will join the expert BOP team to learn through hands-on work how they are restoring oyster reefs across the New York harbor and other cool facts about these very cool creatures and their important role in our ecosystem. The task of the day ranges depending on the needs of the team, and can include activities like cleaning shells or casting reef structures.
For lunch, we'll break for a picnic; you can decide to bring your own food or try out one of the various shops in the island. This has proven to be a great time for catching up and connecting with other WISE members.
If you are thinking this is a whole day activity - fear not! I can promise you it will be fun, educational, and go by very quick :)
Logistics (more details will follow after your registration):
Ferry tickets will be provided by BOP.
Volunteers must be above 16.
Event will be canceled in case of bad weather conditions.
Spots are on a first-come basis, so please register ahead of time if you plan to join.
