Mural Making Workshop with Chenlin Cai and Xingzi Liang

​Join us for a special evening with Chenlin Cai and Xingzi Liang of Sunny Design & Rainy Art Studio. This program offers an inside look at their mural practice, exploring the concepts and creative processes behind mural-making.

​The evening will also feature a hands-on mural painting workshop designed as a collaborative community activity. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the steps involved in creating a mural.

​This interactive experience invites participants to explore cultural storytelling through art while gaining a deeper understanding of the mural-making process.

​About the Speakers

​Chenlin Cai

​Chenlin Cai is a Chinese visual artist based in Philadelphia. His work explores the dialogue between Eastern and Western art traditions, integrating traditional Chinese ink painting with contemporary visual language to create a distinctive aesthetic that bridges art and science.

​Cai has held solo exhibitions in Philadelphia and New York, including a solo exhibition at Philadelphia International Airport in 2024. He has participated in major international exhibitions such as Artexpo New York (2021) and the 12th Florence Biennale (2019). His awards include the Coverly Smith Prize from the Woodmere Art Museum (2020) and the Philadelphia Cultural Treasures Grant (2025).

​Cai has completed dozens of large-scale mural projects across cities in the United States and China. His mural work has been featured by The Philadelphia Inquirer, The New York Times, ABC6, NBC10, and FOX29.

​Through murals in Asian communities nationwide, he is committed to using public art to promote cultural heritage and legacy rooted in Asian and diverse communities.

​Xingzi Liang

​Xingzi Liang is a Philadelphia-based graphic designer and muralist with a master’s degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Inspired by both Eastern and Western aesthetics—as well as the philosophies of wabi-sabi and minimalism—her work interweaves cultural influences from both traditions. She draws creativity from everyday life and pays close attention to subtle details. Previously a senior designer at iQiyi and Anker, she has contributed to projects with the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Friends of the Rail Park, NYC DOT, and the Westin Hotel in Washington, D.C., among others.
