The Island Screening
The Island
A film by Julien Pujol
Presented by Sixteen Film Institute
Sixteen Film Institute presents The Island, Julien Pujol’s haunting meditation on desire, time, intimacy, and our relationship to the natural world.
After travelling around the world, Nina and Mathieu arrive on a remote Estonian island to spend midsummer with friends. As the days unfold and the landscape begins to assert itself, they are confronted with the emptiness of their desires and the uncertainty of what comes next.
Shot on 35mm in black and white, The Island moves between fragmented moments of intimacy, ritual, and observation, allowing nature, memory, and human experience to exist on equal terms.
