ligare gathering: caught in the act
ligare gathering: too much magic
vine memorial · Tuesday night
Ligare is a Houston gathering built around one idea: that a good activity, a room full of kind people, and a few real questions can do more in two hours than another mixer, networking hour, or dinner with strangers and no map.
On May 12, we're at Vine Memorial for a Tuesday night themed around "caught in the act" — what you give away when you think no one's watching, what it costs to keep a secret, and what happens when someone sees exactly who you are. The game is small, sharp, and a little treacherous. The conversations it opens aren't.
Every guest is thoughtfully paired with a table — based on personality, life stage, how you connect, and what you're looking for. Brenen, who built this thing, checks you in at the door and stays through the night.
How a gathering runs
Before you arrive
You'll take a short Connection Profile to tell us about who you are, and how you connect. We'll email you a few days before with a preview of the game, how to play, and what the night is about. The day before, we'll prep you with something to think about, a preview of the discussion questions, and a pre-event playlist built around the night's theme.
When you arrive (~30 min)
You check in with our host, Brenen, at the door. You get a drink ticket, a nametag (with space for your name and what you'd love to talk about), and a printed program with details on your table, a letter written just for you, and a cheat sheet for the game. There's a chalkboard near the entrance with a prompt tied to the night's theme. Light games are already running. You grab your free drink, and ease in at your own pace. Name tags make it easy to find Ligare guests and start conversation.
Your table (~75–90 min)
The host moves everyone to their assigned tables. You meet the people chosen for your table, order food, and light a candle. A Spark Card opens the conversation — not an icebreaker exercise, just an intro question worth answering. We help set up and teach each table the game in under five minutes, then the evening runs itself: you play, talk, eat, open more cards. The host is there when you have a question about the game.
After (~open)
The structure drops when the final card is read. Blow out the candle, linger, keep talking. Most people stay longer than they planned. A survey after gives you a chance to tell us who you would love to be connected with, and we'll follow up if it's mutual.
